What to bring to the Life in the UK Test

Bringing the right documents is one of the easiest ways to avoid losing your £50 fee. You must bring accepted photo ID whose details exactly match your booking, plus anything else your confirmation lists. This guide explains what to bring and what to check before you go. Accepted photo ID

You must bring the same accepted photo ID that you used to book. Accepted forms of ID include:

• a valid passport,
• a biometric residence permit (BRP) or biometric residence card (BRC),
• a valid national identity card from an EU country, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein,
• an eVisa, with a share code,
• a valid travel document with a photo (an emergency travel document is not accepted).

Because the accepted list can change, always check the current rules on GOV.UK before your test.

Proof of address and your booking

As well as your photo ID, bring your booking confirmation, and proof of your address if your confirmation asks for it. The confirmation email you get when you book lists exactly what you need on the day, so read it carefully as soon as it arrives. That way you have time to sort out any missing documents.

Your details must match exactly

The single most common reason people are turned away is a mismatch between their ID and their booking. Make sure the name you booked with is spelled exactly as it appears on your ID, and that your ID is valid and not expired. If anything does not match, contact the booking service before your test rather than turning up and risking the fee.

Your ID must be the original document, not a photocopy, a photo on your phone or a screenshot. Bring the physical document. Test centres also have rules about what you cannot take into the exam room, such as phones and bags, which are usually stored away during the test, so travel light and check your confirmation.

Checklist for the day

• The accepted photo ID you booked with, valid and matching your booking.
• Your booking confirmation.
• Proof of address, if your confirmation asks for it.
• Arrive early, so a queue or a problem does not cost you your slot.
