How BritainTest works
Last reviewed · Reviewed by the BritainTest editorial team
BritainTest is an independent practice platform for the Life in the UK Test. We write our own questions from the official handbook, explain every answer, and let you practise in the real 24-question, 45-minute format until you can pass with confidence. Here is exactly how the practice is made, and why you can trust it.

How our questions are made
Every practice question is written by our team, based on the official 3rd-edition handbook, Life in the United Kingdom: A Guide for New Residents, which is the same source the real test draws from. They are not the Home Office's own exam questions, which are confidential, and we never reproduce copyrighted handbook text. Instead, our questions cover the same facts and topics in the same style, so what you practise transfers directly to test day. To see the topics we cover, start with our study guide.
Explanations and mistake review
Getting an answer wrong only helps if you learn from it. Every question comes with a plain-English explanation, so you understand why an answer is right, not just that it is. The questions you miss are collected for targeted mistake review, so you can go back and revise your weak spots instead of re-reading everything.
Timed mock exams
Our mock exams mirror the real thing: 24 questions, a 45-minute limit, and you need 18 of 24 (75%) correct to pass. Practising under the clock means the format holds no surprises on the day. Our test format guide explains how the real test works.
Track your progress
You can practise by handbook chapter and use flashcards for active recall, and a simple progress dashboard shows how you are scoring across the topics. That way you know which chapters still need work, and when you are genuinely ready to book.
Independent and transparent
BritainTest is independent. We are not affiliated with the Home Office, UK Visas and Immigration, or any government body. The official test is booked and taken through GOV.UK; we are a preparation tool only. We are upfront about that because trust matters more than a marketing claim.
Getting access
You can take a free practice test with no sign-up to see how it works. Full mock exams, mistake review, flashcards and progress tracking come with paid access, which starts at £7.99 as a one-time payment with no automatic renewal. Compare the study access plans to pick the period that matches your test date.
